The 2022 AUS/NZ yearling sale season kicked off in much the same way as it did in 2021 – with a record setting bang. Magic Million’s marquee Gold Coast Yearling Sale set a record for gross and improvements across all statistics.

The top lot was a colt by Yarraman Park’s flagship stallion I Am Invincible who brought $1.9 million from Coolmore’s Tom Magnier. Newgate offered the colt and was also the leading consignor by gross. Segenhoe lead by average with ten or more lots sold. I Am Invincible topped the sire table by gross while Arrowfield’s pensioned Not A Single Doubt led with his final yearling crop by average with ten or more sold.
The buying bench was comprised of 438 listed buying combinations (compared to 414 in 2021). International representation contracted yet again with only Hong Kong and the US active compared to 2021 which had other Asian regions and Europe present.
FBAA agents were very active throughout the sale, purchasing 138 lots (18% of total sold) for a gross $42.9 million (19 % of total gross). The average was $311k and the top price came from Sheamus Mills Bloodstock, who secured an I Am Invincible filly for $1.55 million. 19 individual FBAA agents were represented. Like the overall sale, FBAA agents’ activity was markedly increased, with 16 agents purchasing 105 lots for $24 million in 2021 and a top lot price of $1 million.
The next Australian yearling sale on the calendar is the Inglis Classic sale February 6-8.
