The sale showed a 20% increase in gross from 2021, which was already a high-water mark, for total receipts of $85.3m. Average, median, clearance rate, and lots over $200k and $300k all showed marked increases. The Showcase session also showed increases.

The buying bench was comprised of 360 purchasing entities, with international representation from Hong Kong and Singapore. This is reflective of the yearling market, with international purchases being slower to rebound due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The leading vendor by gross was Widden Stud, who operate out of both NSW and VIC. They sold 27/30 lots for $5.3 million, including the sales topper. Tom Magnier purchased their son of I Am Invincible out of the G3 winning mare Fine Bubbles, catalogued as Lot 522, for $950k.

Swettenhem’s Toronado led the sire rankings by gross, with 29/33 yearlings offered selling for a cumulative $4.835 million. Yarraman Park’s I Am Invincible led by both average and median with three or more sold.

FBAA agents were once again strong on the buying bench throughout the sale, purchasing 89 lots during the Premier session (19% of total sold) for a gross $17.3 million (23% of total gross). The average was $194k with Boomer Bloodstock securing the highest priced lot for $550k on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.  17 individual FBAA agents were represented

The next Australian yearling sale on the calendar is the Inglis Easter sale April 5-6.
