The trends seen throughout the 2021 yearling sales season continued into the breeding stock portion of the year, with all three sections of the Inglis Chairman and Australian sales showing across the board increases. This comes as no surprise, as producers and pinhookers who reaped the rewards of the yearling season reinvested into foals and breeding stock.
Highlighting the mare sections was Group 1 winner Celebrity Queen, who topped the Chairman’s section when she brought $2,500,000 from Coolmore Australia’s Tom Magnier. Her price set a record for the sale since its inception in 2017. She was offered by Holbrook Thoroughbreds. Seven mares brought $1,000,000 or more.
On the foal side of the sale, Newgate’s young gun Capitalist continued his reign in the sales ring, siring the top priced foal. Offered by Middlebrook Valley Lodge, the bay colt out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Laylia brought $400,000. Capitalist led the sale by gross, but it was Coolmore’s first-season Triple Crown winner Justify who led the sire’s table by average with three or more sold ($219k). He also led by median with four of his foals through the ring bringing a median $215k.
